Overview of Leaf & Debris Blowers and Leaf Vacs
- Leaf removal/debris equipment is available with gasoline powered engines, or battery-powered motors. Debris and leaf blowers can be handheld, backpack, walk-behind or stand-on. Leaf vacs are handheld, walk-behind or truckloaders (tailgate mount, skid mount or tow) for commercial leaf removal. Please remember to use hearing protection when using debris blowers and vacs, they are loud!
- Do-Cut sells the top leaf blower and vac brands in the industry:
- Stihl
- Toro
- Husqvarna
- Little Wonder
- Billy Goat
- Ego
- Brown
- If you’re lucky enough to be able to blow leaves into the woods or field and not have to bag your leaves for garbage collection, all you need is a good debris/leaf blower. Handheld, backpack or walk-behind, Do-Cut has what you need!
- If you have to put your leaves in bags, using a debris or leaf blower to get them all in one area is key! Leaf removal is a long, dirty job. Throw away your rake and get a good blower or vac from Do-Cut Sales & Service! A handheld debris and leaf blower has many uses – not just leaves! Of course, you can blow leaves out of flower beds and from under trees and then use your lawn mower, tractor or zero turn to mulch them or bag them. But do you know you can also use your debris and leaf blower to blow a light dusting of fluffy snow from a patio, sidewalk, or driveway? You can also use it to dry your car after washing. Throw away your broom and use your debris blower to sweep your garage, patio, sidewalks, driveway, or any other space that needs a little sprucing up!
- Gasoline powered debris blowers are either two-cycle (mixture of gas and oil), or battery powered. Battery powered debris blowers use a lot of juice, so if you have a large area to clean, be sure you have extra batteries charged and ready to go, you’re going to need them!
- Handheld debris and leaf vacs are great for flower beds with ground cover. It’s so hard to blow leaves out of pachysandra and other leafy ground cover. The only way to get those stubborn leaves out is by using a handheld leaf vac, or a walk-behind vac with a hose kit. You have to be careful not to damage the ground cover, but it can be done! Using a handheld leaf vac to get leaves into bags is much easier than using that darn rake!
- Commercial handheld leaf blowers are not just for the landscaper. Homeowners with a big yard and a lot of leaves to remove can benefit greatly from the features that commercial handheld debris and leaf blowers offer. Features on commercial handheld debris blowers include:
- Trigger locking “cruise control” so you aren’t continuously squeezing the handle.
- Anti-vibration rubber mounts so less vibration gets transferred to the operator.
- Flat or tapered nozzles for more precise air control and higher velocity.
- Backpack debris and leaf blowers are available in residential and commercial sizes, but again just because you are a homeowner and not a professional landscaper doesn’t mean you can’t justify having a professional blower that pushes more miles per hour and has a higher velocity output of air. It is key here to wear ear protection, as that blower is much closer to your head than a handheld debris blower. The trigger control is on the tube, and some tubes have adjustable lengths as well as tapered nozzles for more precise air control.
- Walk-behind leaf blowers are super powerful. Most have pneumatic or semi-pneumatic tires, so they aren’t too hard to push, but some are even self-propelled too! These blowers will move a ton of leaves no matter if they are wet or dry. You can direct the air flow to come out of the front or the side, which is a tremendous help especially if it’s windy! Do-Cut even sells a buggy that can mount on the front of some zero-turn mowers, so your zero-turn mower does all the work! Do-Cut also has zero-turn stand-on leaf blowers. Talk about speed and power all rolled into one machine!
- Walk-behind lawn vacs are very similar to the sweeper you use in your house. These lawn vacuums suck up leaves through the nozzle and then pass through an impeller and into the bag. These bags have a large capacity and a heavy-duty zipper. When the leaves are dry, the impeller will chop them up better than if the leaves were wet. Some walk-behind vacs also have a remote hose kit as an accessory. This hose kit cuts off the intake at the nozzle and uses a long, remote hose for those hard-to-reach areas.
- Most landscape professionals have a debris truckloader in their arsenal of equipment. These truckloaders can be tailgate mounted, skid mounted, skid mounted with a swing-away arm, tow behind, or fully self-contained and range from 18 to 35 horsepower. Large intake hoses, shredding talon impellers and multi-directional discharge control allow the operator to discharge the leaves into large, enclosed trailers, or enclosed pick-up truck beds. Some landscape professionals will even use a truckloader to “unload” their trailer or truck bed, making quick work of the end-of-the day emptying. Self-contained truckloaders are available in 5 or 10 cubic yard capacities. These units, along with tow-behind truckloaders are fully highway ready with taillights, highway ready wheels and axles, etc. This isn’t an easy job, but if your customers get their leaves to the curb, you can quickly go by and suck them up. This is welcome in many neighborhoods and a quick way to pay off a great piece of equipment!
