Single-Stage Snow Blowers
If you live where it snows, simply put, you need a snowblower! Don’t get caught holding a snow shovel and risk an injury or heath related problems. Eliminate a trip to the emergency room with a single stage snowblower!
There are two types of snowblowers, single-stage and two-stage. Single-stage snowblowers are small but powerful snowblowers, and can really move snow quickly and easily. Need to make a path for your pet? A single-stage snowblower can do the job fast, so you and your pet can get back into the house and warm up!

- Toro’s Power Clear single-stage snowblowers can tackle a driveway that holds up to 9 cars, sidewalks, and patios. They can handle a moderate slope too. Single-stage snowblowers are only meant to remove snow from paved surfaces, and not on gravel driveways. They are compact and don’t take up much space in the garage.
- Single-stage snowblowers remove snow in one action. The curved, reinforced rubber auger paddles spin very fast and funnel the snow into the blower chute for quick snow removal.
- A single stage snowblower also has a scraper bar beneath the auger housing. This scraper bar literally scoops up snow into the auger housing for the paddles, and in optimal conditions, allows the snowblower to clean down to the pavement.
- The inverted funnel chute design on a Toro single-stage snowblower reduces clogging. The combination of fast spinning paddles and the scraper bar direct the snow up through the funnel for quick throwing action from the chute. It is very easy to control the chute on a single stage snowblower. Most chute controls are mounted either on the top of the chute, or on the handle.
- When removing snow, you can adjust the chute angle just once based on the consistency of the snowfall. When the snow is light and fluffy in windy conditions, you will want the snowblower chute angled low to medium. Doing so minimizes the amount of snow blowing back on you. In heavy, wet snow, you will want the single stage snowblower chute angled high so the snow is thrown as far as possible.
- A single-stage snowblower can throw snow up to 40 feet in perfect conditions. Toro’s quick chute control allows you to control the direction and angle of the chute right from the handle. The quick chute is only available on certain Toro single stage snowblowers.
- Single stage snowblowers are available in recoil (pull) start, and electric start. An electric start snowblower has a small electric motor mounted on the engine. You simply plug in a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord, push a button (after choking and priming, etc.) and your snowblower will start. Simply unplug it and it will run off the gasoline engine. There is also a recoil pull cord on an electric start snowblower. If you’re away from an outlet, and your snowblower is shut off or stalls, you can use the pull cord to start the engine without going back to the outlet to re-start.
- If your driveway isn’t quite big enough for a two-stage snowblower, but a little too big for a single stage snowblower, the Toro Snowmaster is the snowblower you need.
- This hybrid unit, even though it is considered a single-stage snowblower, can easily clear heavy, wet snow up to 18 inches deep without hesitation. The Toro Snowmaster snowblower units are 7 to 8 horsepower, 24 inches wide, and feature Toro’s personal pace self-propelled drive.
- You simply exert pressure on the Snowmaster handle and the unit propels forward. Large eleven-inch tires, quick stick chute control, ten inch in-line auger system, and electric start make this hybrid single-stage snowblower a must have for snow removal.
- The Toro Snowmaster hybrid single stage snowblower easily removes snow from paved, moderately sloped surfaces that accommodate up to 12 cars, and can power through the tough snow at the end of the driveway. This powerful hybrid snowblower can throw snow 40 to 55 feet.
- Do-Cut also carries battery powered single-stage snowblowers. These snowblowers are equipped with ground engaging paddles and a high intensity light. Be sure you have an extra battery or two charged and ready to go.
- The consistency of the snow can determine the run time on the battery of a snowblower. Heavy, wet, thick snow takes more power than light, fluffy snow, so having extra charged batteries on hand is a must.
- Many professional snow removal contractors will use a single-stage snowblower for snow removal on sidewalks and other walkways, because they are light, small and easy to transport. A single-stage snowblower can be quickly unloaded from a truck and used to clear snow on sidewalks and walkways while the larger truck is plowing.
- Single-stage snowblowers are a great tool to have whether you are a homeowner or professional snow removal contractor. Work smarter, not harder. Having the right tools to get the job done safely and efficiently is key, and a single stage snowblower is one of the tools everyone should have in their garage.
- Gas powered single-stage snowblowers have 4-cycle engines, so separate gas and separate oil. You should get in the habit of checking the oil before using your snowblower, and be sure to run your snowblower out of gas at the end of the season. Start with fresh, ethanol free gas at the beginning of the season. Toro single-stage snowblower rotors have a wear hole – when that hole is no longer visible, it is time to replace the rotors. As a rule of thumb, if you replace the rotors on your snowblower, replace the scraper bar too. Be sure to use Toro OEM replacement parts, as they last longer and provide better service than aftermarket, imposter parts.
